question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

i was on jdm's website looking at parts for my 98 prelude base model. and i saw shit like blox cams and all this stuff.

are jdm parts basically the same as my oem or are they considered aftermarket? like would it increase my hp if i installed these like a skunk2 stage 2 cam would? or is it the same as my oem cam's just better quality

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

Well JDM has more HP than USDM. I was talking to the guys at Crower about some stage one cams for my H23, and they said i'd get 8 to 15 HP out of it, without a tune. I don't know much about 5th gen's, but do you have the H22A4? VTEC or no? But if you want a few extra HP, do an Intake, some good headers, and a cat-back exhaust.

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

im not talking about wanting to increase hp. i've already got tsudo n1 catback exhaust and aem cold air intake. and yes im running an h22a4 usdm vtec engine.

what i mean is if u good jdm, it takes you to their site. on their site they have prelude parts like say the thermal shield intake gasket they have on page 3 of the prelude engine parts.

would this be the same as the oem one i have? or is it considered better like an aftermarket part.

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

Well I'm sure if it's a stock replacement, just JDM, it's probably the same, being that they're both made by Honda. And just replacing gasgets won't really do much. Stock ones are usually fine until you replace something. Like if you got new headers, I'd replace the gasget since your stock one is old. What website are you using to look up these parts?

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

Well it shouldn't matter for just a gasget. As for the Blox cams, the only ones I see are 'Tuner Series.' It may not say it on the JDM site, but the lift/duration for these Blox cams are as follows:

Intake (lift / duration)
12.8mm / 272
Exhaust (lift / duration)
11.9mm / 280

I don't know the stock lift/duration, but that's something your owners manual should have.

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

As far as I know about jdm stuff is that Jdm oem parts are usually of better quality since they were designed and engineerd first for the car, then for the usdm models they had to be slightly altered. Back when I had my 94 si non v-tech, I bought jun auto camshafts and those worked great, before that I had Crower stage 1's. But beware, if you wanna go legit jdm, it cost a lot of money and you'll spend a lot of time waiting around for parts, especially for a prelude.

Re: question a bout aftermarket/jdm parts

answer to your qustion is yes those skunk 2 cams would greatly improve proformance with adjustable cam gears.... i'm my self rebuiling an h22a turboed its it can get expensive but if your looking for simple gains take out the head have it sent out for like a 3 or 5 anlge valve job..... skunk 2 intake with some 750 cc injectors youll make some nice power....
