Exclamation 98 Accord LX swapped with DX engine.

Hello everyone,
any and I mean ANY input will be very helpful at this point.

My mechanic did the swap, i trusted him and he put this peace of junk f23a5 in there instead of f23a1 that blew while my mother was driving to indiana. Oh well.

Now I have some problems:
  • transmission switching points seem to be off.
  • giving me transmission error code now
  • giving me knock sensor error code
  • sometimes when it idles it goes below 500rpm and engine starts to shake, but then it evens out and runs ok.
  • when I try to press on a throttle from under the hood just a little bet same thing as above happens.
  • it takes more cranking to start up the engine
Some of the questions that might help me to address the problems are:
  1. Did the guy have to switch/adjust the ECU to accommodate this lower powered non-vtec engine?
  2. Are all the sensors from those engines compatible w/ each other couse he said he just switched them from the old engine.
  3. Is f23a1 transmission compatible with f23a5 engine?
Thank you guys in advance.

he should have switched ECU's to match the motor he swapped in. the sensors may plug into eachother but make sure the pins are in the correct spot and dont need to be moved.

Thanks for the timely response Greenblurr93.

A follow up question would be: is switching to a lower model ECU model effects any of the features present in LX that are absent in DX, such as power windows, power locks etc...?

Re: 98 Accord LX swapped with DX engine.

Those should be a separate circuit not controlled by the ECU, so i wouldn't think they would be affected.

You wouldn't happen to know if those ecu's are plug and play type of installation. Or will I need to do some kind of adjustments/connector splicing etc..
Thanks.

the plugs should be fine, but i would research if all the connectors match up or if a couple need to be swapped
