97 Lumina spraying antifreeze

Our 97 Lumina started going through antifreeze in a hurry this week. I've had to top up the plastic reservoir three time this week. It is coming out all over the serpentine belt or one of the pulleys, as it is spraying it all over the under side of the hood and everywhere else when the hood is open. My brother is a pretty good backyard mechanic but I wanted to see if someone here could give me some insight as to the problem before I take it out to see him.

Thanks in advance
Darcy

Welcome Aboard!

Check the week hole on the water pump. Coolant in that area would indicate a seal problem with the pump, and likely replacement.

Blue Bowtie is right.I would also check the nipple coming out of the intake manifold that connects to the heater hose. The nipple is made of plastic when original and cracks. The replacement part from GM is now metal!! But that is on the 3.8L.You did'nt mentionned what motor you have...

Re: 97 Lumina spraying antifreeze

Lower intake manifold gaskets typically fail on these engines and if fluid leaking from this gasket gets on the belt it will be flung everywhere.
