I just recently bought a 1988 300E 3.0 L6 Automatic. It has been starting and running fine for the past month since I have had it but all of a sudden it has ceased to start anymore.
The last thing that happened before it quit I was comming home from a friends house with an 1/8 of a tank of gas. At first the following day when it wouldn't start I assumed it was due to either low fuel or maybe water in the line. So needless to say I put 5 gal of premium gas in it and tried starting after priming the fuel system with the key (turn to on for 10 secs to let fuel pump prime line, repeated several times). It kicked over for 2 seconds then shut off. I tried again and it ran for 10 more secs and quit. Nothing after that. It seems if I let it set over night, or for a couple hours at least, and try to start it again it will fire for a good 5 secs and quit. Then not start. Starter is spinning normal, no codes on the computer, half of a tank of fuel. someone please help!! Thanks a bunch chris

Re: 88 300E suddenly wont start!?
You need to verify fuel pressure. Need special fuel test kit to connect to the fuel line between the top of the fuel distributor and the cold start injector. With engine cranking there needs to be at least 77 psi. Check the actual fuel flow, remove the fuel line coming from the tank and jump the fuel pump relay pins 8 and 7 to run the pumps, you should have 1 liter in 40 seconds.
you are testing to see if the tanks screen is plugged or if the pumps are weak. |
