03 Impala LS - NO COURTESY LIGHTS???HELP!

I have a 2003 Impala LS. My dad (who's a mechanice 30+ yrs) are trying to figure out why my courtesy lights aren't working in my car. Already checked all the fuses, good. Thinking it might be the actual headlight switch, but ever since I've had the car for the past year, I've never had courtesy lights come on. I have the sun roof so there's no dome light, but the lights under the dash are both running hot. Not sure why? All I want are my courtesy lights as I'm in Alaska and it's getting to be about that time where there's not much daylight!

If you can help, anything will be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: 03 Impala LS - NO COURTESY LIGHTS???HELP!

Refresh me, where are the courtesy lights located, I dont own one but I have worked on a few. Im always willing to help out another Alaskan. I just went threw this on my van, I got tired of using a flashlight to find anything. Mine was easy, a couple of bulbs and a burnt fuse.

Re: 03 Impala LS - NO COURTESY LIGHTS???HELP!

I have two on each side for the floor. They should be coming on everytime I open a door, but aren't. My dad tested the wires and they BOTH are getting juice. I also have two lights on both side in the rear passenger sides of my car, they WORK, but don't come on. Checked EVERY fuse in my car but can't seem to figure this out. We think it's the headlight switch, but not sure... I've put a few hundred dollars into this car already... I'm about ready to get rid of it, it's driving me crazy!

He tested the wires- they are getting juice--- but are they getting a ground? The courtesy lights work by switching the ground on and off- at the doors and at the dimmer switch- so check for continuity to ground when the switch is on, and any door is open....

Re: 03 Impala LS - NO COURTESY LIGHTS???HELP!

Gonna have to go with brcidd on this one. It sounds like a bad ground somewhere. Next time your in the car just for kicks, open the driver door fully and grab the rubber boot that houses all the wires going from the car into the door and wiggle that boot up and down a few times and see if the lights flash or not. Its a shot in the dark, but in cold dry climates that we live in here, the constant opening and closing of the door sometimes causes the wires to break or split in that boot.
