1990 Mustang LX 5.0L Ball Joints
The ball joint on the passenger side control arm is going. My Haines book says that the ball joints cannot be replaced individually on this vehicle; the entire lower control arm must be replaced and both should be replaced together. This sounds really involved and expensive.
So, my question is, can the ball joints be replaced without replacing the control arms? If so, where can I find a procedure to do so? Thanks much.

Re: 1990 Mustang LX 5.0L Ball Joints
Check the lower control arms to see if the ball joints are riveted in. If so you can cut the rivets with a chisel. The new ball joint will come with nuts and bolts to put it in. This is the way it was for me several years ago. You may be right. You might have to put in the control arm. Shouldn't be that expensive. Call around and ask them if they have a part for ball joint replacement without the control arm. I've seen the ball joints with bolts to replace the rivets. I'm fairly certain it can be done this way.
