Finished: '94 WRX RAC McRae & Ringer

Hi Guys,

Some photos of the Hasegawa 1/24th '94 RAC/'95 Monte kit. I built the RAC version, as this is the correct one for the wheels supplied and the ride height. Kits is OOB, with no real major mods - just small ones like cutting out air vents etc. The colour is an automotive paint, not quite right but about the best I could find. Enjoy....

Oh yeah, I also added the light pod from a Tamiya WRC kit. I know it is not correct, but it looks cool, fits like a dream, and it just sits on so I can remove it easy.

Thumbs up

Interior paints where the gear shift is on looks grainy and so does the undercarriage.
Good work on the engines though. Same for the interior details.
Overall body paint looks very nice!
I luve the outdoor shots!

Great job man!

I'll take teh honer in bieng the fist to make a comment on the ride height ... IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BUILT TO RALLY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS OVER SMALL CHILDREN!!! :finger:

J/K

It's a great lookin car and the build is great as well. The orange peel in the interior floor gives it realism

One question though, what's that thing in between the 2 seats in the rear? Is'nt this thing suposed to be sequential (speeling?) ?

That's a great looking build.

The thing with Hasegawa is that their kits provide you with enough bits (talking about the P/e sheet + metal aerial, etc) to make a decent model straight out of the box.

Now I know this has been said numerous times, but I wish Tamiya would start doing the p/e seat belt buckles soon.

Another Subie! Man you are possessed !! (okay I apreciate the hypocracy of a Pug obsessed individual like me saying that)

Looks good, if a bit rough in spots. Can't wait to see the rest of your Subarus.

Do you mean the big grey thing with the two round holes? It is a chunk of shaped foam designed to hold the crew's helmets on road stages.

Yes the car has a sequential gearchange, the paddles are on the steering wheel. The floor mounted shitfter is still kept as a backup.

Are you sure about this? I seem to remember that paddle shifts began to be used in WRC in 2000 or so (was it Subaru that started this?). Not sure about the 94 car.

Yup. Probably the first example of semi-auto gearchange in rallying. The paddles were on the front of the wheel, operated by the thumbs.

Don't know if it was used on this particular rally though. Might have been like Toyota on the Corolla - they only used their joystick change on the tarmac rallies in 1998.

There is a picture of the system on page 505 of Klein's "Rally Cars"

Caption says "The paddles on the steering wheel were an early but unpopular move towards semi-automatic gearchanging"

They look like nasty little horn shaped things, easy way to break a thumb!
