2000 taurus

Stalls at most every stop and won't stay running without foot on gas pedal. Replaced fuel filter already. Any ideas???? I'm a single mom and this is my daughters car. I hate to take it in without some idea of what might be wrong.

Re: 2000 taurus

have you had fuel pump tested? if so it could be the tps snsor-throttle body sensor or maf sensor-mass-air-flow-sensor. is your check engine light on?

Re: 2000 taurus

Does it run roughly or is it pretty smooth? You could have a vacuum leak, misfire on one or more cylinders, or an EGR valve that is not closing fully if the car runs roughly at low engine speed.

If the engine is still pretty smooth until you let all the way off the throttle, I'd suspect a bad Idle Air Control (IAC), aka Idle Speed Control, servo or a badly carboned up throttle body.

This exact same problem happened to me a week or so ago on my 2000 Taurus Wagon. I guarantee you have a vacuum leak.

I agree with Rod on the IAC. Try tapping on it with a screwdriver handle to see if it helps. A generic picture is below.
