2001 hyundai accent no acceleration

Aloha,
my car has hardly any power when I try to accelerate.I changed the fuel filter, that was fun, lol,I also changed the spark plugs and cleaned the MAS as well as I could but could not open it all the way as I do not have a security screwdriver to open it . It runs a little better but it runs like a champ if i disconnect the MAS alltogether. Will I be doing any damage to the engine driving it with it disconnected until I can purchase a new MAS, found one on e-bay for 50.00 but can't afford to purchase it until next month.Much Mahalos for any advice you may have, Pat in Maui

It will don't damage your engine, but it may damage your catalyc converter if you run with the MAF sensor disconnected.
