Leaking trans shifter shaft seal

I have an 89 Metro 5 speed. Does anyone have an exploded view of shifter shaft and seal. I want to know if I can replace seal without tearing the whole thing down. Thanks.

Re: Leaking trans shifter shaft seal

I've never replaced it, so I'm not sure. Here is a diagram from the shop manual. There was no procedure written for specifically replacing the seal. In reading the procedures for disassembling the transmission, it sounds like you might not be able to replace the seal externally. As far as I can tell, to pull the gear shift shaft out, you have to remove the arm from the other end of the gear shaft (inside the case) which is secured with a roll pin. I could be wrong, but that's how I see it. It doesn't look like the oil seal will slide over the end of the shaft, which has been a method I've used on other transaxles.
