99 GASE weird leak

Hello,

My 99 GA SE 3.4 has been leaking something that smells like gas but is black like old oil.
I took a look and the leak is coming from some little tubes that run on the driver's side. There are 4 tubes and they seem to be corroded causing the leak.
It's dripping closer to the rear driver's side wheel, right under the rear door
It's really messy there so it's hard to see exactly where it is coming from. I'm thinking the tubes are the break lines, but not sure.
Any suggestions?

Thank You

Weber

Re: 99 GASE weird leak

There is both break lines and gas lines. You stated it smells like gas I would bet it is. There is 2 brake lines going to the rear and 2 gas lines going to the gas tank.

The fuel lines are attached to the rear head and are bigger and shiny, the brake lines are a smaller tubing.

If its gas you would know your tank would empty rather quickly.

Sounds line a brake line , so how do the brakes operate ??
Notice any thing spraying when braking ??

Re: 99 GASE weird leak

Brakes are working OK, and it only drips a little so the gas consumption seems to be normal.
Does anyone knows if they are stainless steel?

Yes they are supposed to be stainless.

I guess transmission, power steering, oil, could be leaking and as you drive down the road it gets blown back onto everthing you are seeing.

Try wiping it off with a clean paper towel and see what color it is.
Then in a few days check it again and notice the color.

Re: 99 GASE weird leak

Have the emissions charcoal canister checked. It could be filling up with fuel and mixing with the charcoal inside then leaking a nasty black fluid that smells like gas. That would fit the location and might fit the symptoms too. This would indicate another problem somwhere else in the fuel emissions system.
