Re: What brand of oil/filter to use?

K&N HP-1001 is what I was using but they run about $15-20.
Now I use Mobil 1 M1-101 extended protection, pretty cheap at walmart.

Though in the past I've skimped out and bought Fram which isnt very good, at all !

I think I will probably go the K&N and Mobile 1 route, I have heard of a lot of people doing it, I cant find a Puralator Pure One around here anywhere.

Re: What brand of oil/filter to use?

I use Mobil 1 and will be changing my preferred brand of filter the next time I change my oil. Sadly, I can no longer recommend A C Delco filters as they have changed their manufacturing process and now are far less superior than they once were. There has been a oil filter study online that tested various makes of oil filters and up until this year, the A C Delcos were one of the best. Now that title is held by Mobil1 or K&N, (although the study says to get the Mobil1 as they are the same as the K&Ns , but less expensive.) Here is a link to that study for anyone who wants to read up on it: http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar.../opinions.html . If you'll notice, the A C Delcos, K&Ns and Mobil1's are all made by Champion Labs. The difference that separates them from 'less desirable" to preferred is the manufacturing processes used to make them.

A CAI wont void your warranty.

The deal with K&N air filters is if to much oil is on them they can faul out your MAF and IAT sensors. Usualy a cleaning will restore those components.

I oil mine very lightly, if at all when I wash them out. I usualy clean mine every 10-12K miles or every two oil changes.

Re: What brand of oil/filter to use?

Got a K&N oil filter (HP-1001) at Oriley's for 9.99, and Valvoline because Mobil 1 synthetic was either scarce, or extinct "due to hurricane Ike." put over 100 miles on the new oil, and not even a change in color, cant hardly tell its on the dipstick cause its clear, put it on a paper towel, and it looks like water, but a heck of a lot slicker, lol. I am impressed.

Re: What brand of oil/filter to use?

You did see above where the K&N is the same as the Mobil 1 are the same, and the Mobil is much cheaper.
The only thing different is the nut welded on the end of the K&N, and half the time, it breaks off when you try to use it.
