Completed: 1970 Mustang Mach I and Sportsroof

I built the new Revell '70 Mach I for Scale Auto review, and alongside it I built an older version of the same kit which can be built from the same box as the Mach I. Instead of building the Boss 302 variant I built a standard 302 Sportsroof. The kit comes w/Magnum 500's (old) and wheelcovers (new) meant for the Mach I; I mixed and matched them to build them OOB the way I wanted them. I made the whitewalls w/a gel pen and circle template, the white letter markings on the Mach I were done w/Shabo dry transfers (now sadly gone).

The roots of this kit go back to 1981 when they first issued it as a Boss 429. In the early 90's they tooled up the Boss 302 and a street machine version of this kit, and the Mach I has a new interior/engine/wheels/and trim to make a reasonably accurate Mach I. The new interior has separate side panels instead of the earlier tub (which is in my green Sportsroof). The kit is 1/24 scale, rather simple and easy to build, not a ton of detail, and the grille proportions are slightly off-it's a bit too wide vertically. Not a bad kit, but not completely up to most modern standards. Very fun build.

Bob,
I have to say you build disgustlingy nice models, I am always amazed at how many you get done. The green one is absolutely stunning.

Wow! You managed to build two so different looking cars starting from virtually the same kit.
Both are wonderful models!

Thanks, and it wasn't that long ago you were cranking them out and I was thinking the same thing about you

My green one I tried to match Ford's lime gold using a couple of Cobra Colors pearls, and I failed spectacularly. I didn't have time to get MCW's paint, the Testors Citrus Yellow wasn't quite right, and then I end up with this color which I do love, it's almost a candy color in the right light, a bit "Hot Wheels"...an accident with good results but I sure missed the paint match I intended by a mile

I would have thought those were pictures from the 1970 Mustang brochure!

Awesome job, Bob.

I have to remember the gel pen trick.
