Re: 88 weird turn signals

Welcome to the forum!

That is a weird one. What happens if you step on the brake pedal while the engine is off and the key is on with turn signals on? Do the 4-way flashers work when the engine is running? Have you checked all the bulbs to make sure they work?

Re: 88 weird turn signals

I took a look at the Ford SM. I'd start checking for power with the engine on at the inside fuse box, fuse 5, 15A, which is for the brakes, signals, etc. That would be a start, either its the ignition switch side or the multi function switch side, which would include the flasher Rod was alluding to. I always think of a ground problem when there is a weird electrical problem. Oh, there is also the brake on/off switch that may be grounding your signal switch. But none of it makes sense with it working with the engine off, not with engine on.

Re: 88 weird turn signals

Have you tried wiggling the key while the engine is running to see if the ignition switch may not be returning to the proper position?

Thumbs up Re: 88 weird turn signals

Thx, wiggling the key worked. now it works everytime, without wiggling the key. so I guess if this ever starts back, I would relpace the Key switch ?

Re: 88 weird turn signals

More than likely it will be the electrical switch down on the column. But if the key cylinder has enough slack in it, it may be the problem. Good luck.
