96 Civic?!?!?

Ok, I am new to all this shit, but would love to build a sweet little street ride, I am looking at a 96 Civic Coupe. WHat kind of motor/transmission should get dropped into this car?? Any links you could provide would be so so so helpful!

b18c5 is what i prefer but i can't afford $5000 for the engine, tranny, and ecu...... .....the itr engines and most popular but the most expensive engines

ok, maybe this will clarify things, I will have 6K to spend on the motor and any other performance needs, assuming I will not make any other major modifications, (All parts must work with current motor etc) what should I buy to get the most performance for the buck?? Any help is always appreciated.

u could go b18c5 w/ a turbo but after paring at least $4500 + $1000 for installation....ur left with $500....

i think the better alternative would be the jdm b18c1 and turbo setup on that....

Yep, like i said in the other thread, forget the C5. It would be a waste of money if your going to turbocharge it. Get a JDM, or even USDM B18C1 and then turbo charge it.

Costs will vary, mostly depending on how much of the work you can do yourself. Also, custom personal built turbos are usually much cheaper and offer better performance but require more skill and knowledge and also don't come with the gaurentees of a commercial kit.

well a gsr swap unless yoru doing it yourself, will cost around 5000. so if you only got 6000 to spend, that doesnt leave your much. you could afford, i think, a b16 turbo. which would be faster than the gsr.

i think it all depends on what you want, for example. are you gonna turn this car into like a 11 sec car ? do you want a car that just runs like 14s or 13s ? do you just want little more power ? you need to tell us more about waht you want your car to be like in the end and how much power you want

hey man if u got the money or save a lil more get the b18c5 which is a type are motor lower the compression and turno it. Be carefull with the compression if u turbo any motor u want it to be just right. On the other hand a b16a motor and swap should only cost u no more than 4 grand and get a turbo and later do internal and crap you'll be fast as hell

This car is getting alot of Exterior/Interior Mods and is 80% show. I just don't want it to be a total pansy too. I mean hell, if it looks bad ass it better be able to hold its own against stock shit........... I really wanna do some preliminary larg improvements (Motor + Turbo) and maybe spend a little $$ down the line making other additions as well..... Thanks for all the help so far and please keep the ideas coming!

if its show a nicely dressed b16a turbo will make people happy and wont think ur a pansy and will keep u satisfied while driving but if people knew u had a b18c5 the type R motor i know i would be kissing ur feet at that very moment and make u my god.

now flunkdaflex is funny and wrong. you see flunkdaflex think the type r motor is a god or soemthing. when the rest of the world would be happier to see a b16 turbo because it would spank a type r motor, plus turbos look cool. witha b16 turbo, no one will think your a pansy, well except maybe the type r kids who think they are faster than you but youll spank them anyways.

i think a b18c turbo is cool looking, followed by a b16 turbo, then those shitty type r motors. but with any one of these motors turbo motors, you will spank

i'd go with the b16 from the civic type r.....same red valve cover as the b18c5 but in the end u'll pay less...and it still has a big aftermarket following....wonder if u can do the homemade turbo with the b16?
