Unhappy Fuel leaking out of tailpipe

1997 3.3L Dodge Caravan. Fuel is leaking out of the tailpipe and smoking. Oil is not milky. Changed plugs, made no difference. Check Engine Light is on but can't get it any place to get codes. Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

Re: Fuel leaking out of tailpipe

Liquid fuel never leaks out the tailpipe when the engine is running. Excess fuel would be burned up in the catylitic converter.

It is normal for water vapor to come out the pipe looking like 'smoke' upon initial start up. Also, if the exhaust is cool, the vapor condenses and drips out the pipe.
If it's doing this very badly, engine coolant may be getting in the xhaust through a cracked head or blown head gasket.

You can do the key dance to read the code turning on the CEL. Cycle the key from off to on (not start) 3 times leaving it on. Count the number of times the CEL light blinks. These blinks are the code. All codes have two digits. Each digit is separated by a pause. Multiple codes are separated by a longer pause. Code 21 would be blink, blink, pause, blink. Should finish with a code 55. Come back here with the results.

Re: Fuel leaking out of tailpipe

It was fuel coming out the tailpipe, it's on everything that was behind it and on ground. One of the front injectors was stuck open. Got 6 for $75 from boneyard. Replaced the front 3 and problem resolved. Service Engine Light reset itself after driving a 1/4 mile. Thanks everyone for all the replies.

Re: Fuel leaking out of tailpipe

Guess we all learned something. Never heard of raw gas out the TP. Glad to hear you got it fixed.
