2000 Sonata check engine

I have a 2000 Hyundia Sonata V6 automatic that I am having some problems with. Around 30 to 35 mph the car shifts really hard and the check engine light comes on. If you bring the car to a stop and then try to start driving again it feels like if you were driving a manual car and tried to start from second or third gear. Once you stop and turn the car off the check engine light goes away and the car drives fine until it does the hard shift again. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be the transmission range switch. Get the computer scanned and see what code is in it. It'll help diagnose your issue.

Re: 2000 Sonata check engine

Have you checked the speed sensors? With my sonata, I would be driving down the road and it would make a hard shift out of overdrive and trigger the check engine light. I thought it was my transmission. Replaced speed sensors myself, fairly easy process. Check the HMA website for directions. Solved my problem.
