This is why you should change your tranny ATF. Tuneup stuff.

Finally got around to doing a full tune up (courtesy of finding employment).

My plugs were in semi-bad condition. I partially credit this to running seafoam and techron beforehand. (hear it can foul plugs).

So I moved on to dropping my transmission pan to change the fluid and filter.

This is the fluid that came out:

I also topped off an empty bottle that had coolant in it (know you shouldnt mix). But it shows the color even better:

Needless to say, the fluid did not smell burnt. I know because I got covered in it . The pan was clean and had no metal shavings, some gray sludge on magnet.

After changing the fluids I can barely notice a shift (compared to what it used to be).

Also ran seafoam, techron, oil change after putting seafoam in the oil, changed pcv hose and pcv valve and did some other stuff. I gained 4 MPG out of the above. After running the seafoam I no longer get the engine tick I had.

Just felt like sharing!

Re: This is why you should change your tranny ATF. Tuneup stuff.

Nice thread:

Do you have to buy a gasket and sealer as well as tranny fluid?

Can you give a quick description of the steps?

What was the total cost doing it yourself?

Also I heard this doesn't get the tranny fluid out of the auto-clutch section.

If you use synthetic tranny fluid, will the last quart or two of non-synthetic stuck in there affect anything?

Can you mix synthetic and regular tranny fluid?
