1995 ecpilse GS Crazy problem need help with

First off hello to everyone and thanks for help.opcorn:

I have a 95 Eclipse GS with 2.0L dohc 5Spd manual Trans. I have been workin on cars since i was 16 and this stump me and my older brother who is ASE cert. This problem started about a month ago. While drivin my car on highway it was running fine then my moter died Speedtometer and tack Shut down all other power Radio, windows, wipers, lights, amp, subs, A/C, blower motor, all still worked fine. but the motor itsself was not running I did not know how fast i was goin and the tack did not work and the motor was slowin down my car as if I was push startin at a high speed but the motor was still off after about two mins it started back up and was running normal while i was on the highway.

Then the next day I came out to start my car it would not start Then I waited five mins with the key on and i was dianosing the possible things it could be that did it then I was lookin at the dash and the coolant temp light cut on and i heard the Fuel pump kick on. I was just sittin in the drivers sit when it happened I went to try and start my car up and it started just fine and ran for about a half hour and cut off. when i tried to restart it did the same thing I could not start it tell I heard the fuel pump kick on and that light lit up. So I thought it might be a short so I started checkin wires to see what it could be I replaced all fuses in car and under hood I was about start replacin relays next. before i do that i decided to rerun the fuel pump wires did that and tryied to start my car and now it was not gettin spark but plenty of fuel i smelled gas. and now I am stumped I can not even get it to start at all maybe once a blue moon but it will only run for like 20mins not even enough to get to gas station LOL

Its stressin me out Can someone plx give me some advice? cause the fuel pump is good it has new coil new plugs wires i just can not figure out what it is.

Hi and welcome to AF. Thank you for using the correct subforum and explaining the problem the best you can.

So what you're saying is that the car randomly shuts off, but all the electrical still works and such? Now it's not starting at all?

If you smell the ECU, does it smell like burnt electrical? Do you have a spare to swap it out with? Any check engine light? Check the cam position sensor and the crank position sensor. If you don't know how to do so, get a Haynes manual. Also, check to see if your timing is still perfect.

Yes the car was randomly shutin off while i was drivin. when it shut off the tack and speedometer would not work whats so ever but everything else did. Ok I smelled ECU it does not have a smell at all and also had brother smell he could not tell either. Have to get a ECU to swap with Luckly Pull A Part (Pic ur own parts Junkyard) just opened here so I will be stoppin in to see what all cars they have. No check engine light when it first started doin this and now that I can not get it to run I can not tell if its on or not LOL As far as checkin the crankshaft position sensor and cams shaft sensor I did notice the there is a build up of oil leakin from the valve cover right where the camshaft sensor is and i do not know how to correctly test it all i would know is put new gasket on vale covers and put in new camshaft sensor LOL. If u could could u explain how to test the two sensors I will not be able to get book tell next week

PS I just found out that my Rear Motor mount that I just replaced is broke and the bolts are broke off in the holes And i need to find out how to fix or a good place to send to.

Ok thanks for the help I replaced the Camshaft sensor and before i replaced the Crankshaft sensor i put a ECM out of a neon and it fired right up so I know the ECM is bad so I will be going to get a new one once again thanks a lot i know I have to pay almost three hundred dollors now LOL but at least i get to keep my baby my next project is gs to gsx wish me luck that is my winter project

You can get a new ECU off ebay pretty cheap. Also there is always people parting their cars out on other forums you could probably get one from.


Edit - Are you installing the 4g63 motor in your gs along with the AWD system or are you going to make the 420a AWD?

GS to GSX? How do you think you're going to pull that off out of curiosity?

I want to do the motor 4G63 with 7 bolt flywheel, trans driveshaft rear end systems new exshast I am lookin up the info now lol I love my eclipse always have I wanna try to get it fast enough to beat my brothers Caprice classic that has been my goal for two years now I wanna redo everything on this car that I can replace lol but i do not want to rush into it I wanna take my time and really take a good look at what i have to do first I know my skills and i know my limits but its gonna work out

Why not just buy a GSX/GST? Would be cheaper.

Its hard for me to find one I want one so bad but there are none for sell in Indiana at all if anyone finds one can someone let me know please
