2004 stratus heater fan is loud
hello all i hope someone can give me some guidance...a few days ago my wifes fan started making alot of noise when it was on 3&4 blowing the ac so i looked and the ac still works, the heat works, the fan blows at all 4 settings but its loud on 3 and really loud on 4 and i think them 2 settings used to blow harder but im not sure. I opened the hood to find out where the fan was and found it on the passanger side behind the glovebox. So i found it and thats defenetly making the noise, what i need to know is whats wrong? I dont want to start taking that thing apart ( it looked like a black box) and leave her w/out ac, should i get a new "black box" or is it something else? whats the black box called? Any help will be apprecitated
Thank you |

Re: 2004 stratus heater fan is loud
I have a 2004 Startus and had the same problem. A piece of the insulation fell down into the squirrel cage blower. I could not get to it but was able to see it with a mirror. Take vacuum hose and it should fit into the opening to suck it out. If the hose is too big, take a smaller hose and use duct tape or the like and tape the smaller hose to the bigger one. It worked for me.

Re: 2004 stratus heater fan is loud
This is for the 1995 to 2000 Breeze/Stratus/Cirrus, but hopefully the 2004 is not much different.
The fan is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, inside the car, behind the glove box just like smokedog says. There is a black plastic cover that you see when you stick your head down there to look. The right side has to plastic push it type fasteners, pull out on the center of them to remove, and the left side just slides over the air duct. This cover incorporates some of the air ducting. Once that is removed, look up there and towards the right side you will see some wires. There are actually two connectors right there. One is for the blower motor resistor block, the other is for the blower motor itself. The one for the blower motor only has two wires in it. Disconnect this, and then there will be 3 bolts, 5/16" or 8mm heads if I remember correctly. Remove them and pull the blower motor straight down to remove. Then you can see if you just have something in there that you need to clean out, or if your bearings are going bad in the motor assy.
