water on the motor
I have a 91 honda accord i have been putting back together. I was in the process of doing the timing belt before the big storm hit down here. With doing the timing belt you have to take the valve cover off. When the storm hit the strong winds blew the hood up and it rained on the motor. Is the motor still good enough to put back together or does it have to be completely reworked. What process am i looking at get this motor up and running?

Re: water on the motor
I would drain the oil. Water inside the engine will eventually evaporate but the question is how much dirt or other stuff got blown into the engine? You might be able to wash off the head with solvent and let it flow to the pan and out of the engine. Then it will take a oil change plus another after running the engine for about an hour. Also change the filter each time. Good luck.

Re: water on the motor
Yep, Rain is no prob. Mpu did poo up the works bye saying buy buy water and dirt is open the drain plug and start washing the water works is keep washing the engine out.
Now, you can do one of two things. Take about 4 cans of oil and keep pouring it all along the top end so it can at least follow your hose down. You have the drain plug out and all the water dripping out is all she wrote for now. So, you then install the drain plug sorta loose with a drain pan under it. Now fill the crankcase up with new oil. Water is heavier than oil, so the first liquid that is going to drain out is whatever water the oil pushed out in the cracks is now at the bottom of the pan. Crack the drain plug. Let the water out and stop at the oil. Clean the pan. Drain the new oil in the pan. Look for water. Pour the oil one more time down the top end is your second and final wash down. Crack the drain is if there is no oil, like, mpuas said, you now drive it to running temp, and keep cooking the engine for a bit. Come home, drain that oil. Fill with new is an 8 quart wash the weather away. You hurt nothing either way you do it. Filter should catch the debris. |
