Such an exciting ordeal when you're going 70 on a toll road to see your speedometer just jump down to zero.
Check transmission light came on, so I pulled over and turned off my car and peeked under the hood to see if anything was visibly missing (I really know absolutely nothing about cars, besides how to fix a tire and change oil) Turned my car back on, light was off, but when I started to move, my speedometer didn't. So, now I drive at 0 MPH and if I get above 45 and have to break below 20 (I'm guesstimating), the light comes back on. Any ideas and/or suggestions as to what is wrong and how to fix? Under the impression the sensor may have died, and I can only assume it'd be in my transmission since I believe that shifts my car...I really don't want to go and wait all day for someone to diagnose, fix and charge me out the ass when I have the means to do the fixins at home. |

Re: Speedometer stopped working
Without being able to look at the car I would say it's the speedo itself. It's hard to pinpoint but from what I've seen in the past I would say bad speedo.

Re: Speedometer stopped working
90% chance it is the vehicle speed sensor located on the top of the back of the transmission (next to where the rear transmission mount is) below where the air inlet hose connects to the air intake manifold. These are a common fail item on your model. It is generally held in by a few 10mm bolts and takes approx. 15 minutes to change. It should have a gray or black 3 wire connector plugged into it. I would go to autozone (or dealer) and buy a new one, it will give you a pretty good idea of how to change it.
