Stock afm problems

90 supra 7mgte, basic exhuast, intake ,mbc mods

The other day i noticed my aftermarket air filter was extremely dirty so i figure i would clean it and while im at it i figured it would be logical to take out the maf to clean it from contaminates hoping to restore power. Anyway i ended up cleaning both the filter and the maf (with maf cleaner), the metal housing and honeycomb with carb cleaner, and I also seaf foamed my engine through a vacuum for the intake and put some in my gas tank for the injectors, cylinder heads, etc. When i started my car i ran it, about a minute later an egine light came on. I disconnected the battery and let it sit to try to reboot the ecu, but the code came back and and the cars idle was poor. I diagnosed and read the code as a faulty MAF. One day later (today) the car runs decent under load but idles bad and stalls out 75 percent of the time i put it neutral or disengage the clutch. I have a bov which effected the rpm but not to this extent. I know a MAF from toyota or any reputable parts store will cost me over 400$. (even a remanufactured one is over 300) Anybody know what i can do to save money, restore my old sensor, or is it worth it to upgrade and get a lexus afm, but then i would need injectors, computer and i would be looking at over 1000$. Anyone have a used afm for a 7mgte willing to sell it? Suggestions help. plss

Re: Stock afm problems

Search ebay, local recycling yards, and supraforums/supramania for a used stock KV AFM, you will find one easily under that price and will work fine. The LEX/550 upgrade is in the housing that flows more unmetered air, not the electronics. Another simple option is to upgrade to a MAP piggyback system, either an HKS VPC or MAF-Translator type unit, assuming you have no other problems from the cleaning you've done.
