2000 A/C problem

I own an 00 venture 3.4 with 102358 miles The problem I am having is with the a/c compressor and radiator cooling fans do not work. The A/C button lights up when pushed but the compressor will not kick in. Any ideas??

Number one failure mode is mobile a/c systems is loss of refrigerant charge due to a leak- find and fx your leak (shaft seal of compressor is #1 location) evacuate and recharge.

Does this cause the cooling fans not to turn on? I checked the fuses and all seem ok

Re: 2000 A/C problem

the fans should come on when the temp gauge gets a little above 1/2 mark a/c on or off.check the fan relays for blwn relay. as for the a/c if the freon is low the low pressure switch keeps it off to keep from burning the compressor up[ low oil] or a relay is bad....if you see oil on the a/c pulley then the shaft seal is leaking.kit is $45.00 plus clutch tool set..but its beats a new compressor.have the freon level checked then go from there

Re: 2000 A/C problem

Another common A/C leak area is the lower right mounting bracket on the A/C condenser (where it mounts to the radiator). It's a poor design that cannot dissipate any vibration, so the condenser cracks at the bracket and allows the R-134A and oil to leak out. If the crack is large enough, you may also see the green dye used in the A/C system; it looks like green antifreeze.
