93 Lumina 3.1 L wEngine won't run in reverse
My sister in law has a 93 Lumina 3.1 engine that all of a sudden will not run when She shifts it to reverse. Will run ok in drive just not in reverse. Is this a Torgue converter problem or what?
Thanks for any help |

Shouldn't be...the TC goes the same direction and loading either direction of movement...
My guess would be an electrical glitch in the steering column or something like that. Something shorting or opening a circuit, killing the ignition.

I appreciate your reply . I found the problem. Was the front two top motor mounts. The rubber bushings were worn out and when you shifted into reverse the motor would rock and put something in a bind.

Huh...that's interesting...would have never come up with that, but I can see it happening. Might prove useful in the future...
Thanks for posting the solution!

By the way, wouldn't that also indicate the condition of the LOWER motor mounts? At least they should be checked too. It stands to reason that if there was x play in the top ones, then that alone might have created more wear and play in the lower ones... Last edited by sad-lumina-owner; 08-26-2008 at 02:26 AM. |

Re: 93 Lumina 3.1 L wEngine won't run in reverse
There was quite a bit of play. Bushings were well worn out. I haven't checked out the bottom bushing. yet. I am still working on the car. Plenty of other problems too, so the bottom bushings are probably worn also.
