how much for tranny rebuild

i have a 96 k2500 suburban with a 7.4l the reverse went out.everything else works ok shift good and everything. just wondering on what kinda price reange i'll be looking at for a rebuild on the tranny so i know what to expect.

Your looking at $1,800+ for a good rebuild. Just kinda depends on the shop but I would get it done at a reputable one. It was a little over $2,500 for my grandfathers 99' three-quater ton burb. It was $2,000 for my half-ton 96'. It really depends on the shop but would be no less than $1,500 if its done right. Also another thing to keep in mind is looking into whether the shop you choose uses beefier parts. When I had my 96' done, they installed the beefier sun shell gear and various other parts. They also installed a trans-go shift kit. This, I hope, will help it last a little longer, as the stock 4L60E has chronic failure in these rigs. However I don't know about the 4L80E which I believe is in your truck (someone correct me if I'm wrong). It seems to be more solid. Anyhow, I hope this helps. Good luck.
