04 blower motor says on

My 04 grand prix's blower motor stays on even after i replaced the resistor.
it worked for a few days after i replaced the resistor, an now the blower is staying on again.
Would a bad blower motor short out the resistor?

Re: 04 blower motor says on

Probably not since very few 04 and up models had that problem. Normally it was the blower motor module just like the 97 - 03 models. It may be a shorted blower motor but I doubt it.

I would recommend getting a GM wiring diagram and check to see how the circuits are. There is a hi-speed fan relay which may be wired differently. In the 97 - 03 models it was typically the blower motor resistor (manual) or module (digital). The high speed relay was mounted on those components but it may have changed for 04 and up models. Hope the info helps.

Re: 04 blower motor says on

I had this same exact issue. I used the AllData service (available online for a fee or free at most libraries). According to alldata, a voltage spike is what blows the resistor for the fan, and they gave me instructions to install a capacitor into the wiring harness to prevent this in the future.

So I would highly recommend the AllData service.

Welcome to AF.

BTW - The capacitor fix per the GM TSB out on the issue is really not the ultimate fix since members with '04 and up GPs are having re-occuring problems. They had the capacitor mod applied.
