Carpet between rear seat and window

Has anyone ever replaced the carpet that goes between the rear seat and window? I'm not sure if its something i could get at my local carpet store because it doesn't have the same kind of backing as regular carpet. "It allows sound to get through from the rear speakers as you may notice."

Yes, I have - and the rolls of 'carpet' they sell at Autozone nicely does the trick.

this carpet over the speakers will interfere with the sound quality...


also if you use an amp with more power than the stock radio 25watts on up/channel it is best to use some 3/4 plywood on that rear deck under in trunk and mount the speakers to that.. this will give a solid bass sound with no rattles...

Im geussing yours is falling apart? mine as well, mine has a hole and you can see the speaker. i think im just going to get speaker covers and have the speakers stick out on the outside of the carpet instead.

Mine was in perfect condition until my stupid kid self cut holes in it for some new 6x9's back when I first got the car. Now I want it back to the way it used to be, but can't find a brown rear shelf in good shape without a third brake light to save my life.

Wow thats a great idea. The carpets falling apart mainly where the speakers go as you said so i'll have to try that when i get my car back. The only problem for me is that the speaker grills are too big and don't fit between the window and the seat.

If you use the plywood under the rear deck you can install 6x9 speakers....why use those 5x10 ....???there junk....mount speaker under the plywood hole this will be about 1 1/2 inches below the top of the inside deck, this also gives better sound and offers some protection from the heat of the sun damaging the speaker coil/cone material...this works ...

you will need a scroll saw and electric drill ...I made a pattern with paper of top deck to make holes in plywood...fits like OJ's glove..

I bought new speakers months ago because the leak in my trunk caused the original ones to rust solid. But wait the originals were 5x9's?? On the autozone site it said that they were 6x9's so thats what i got. No wonder why they didn't fit that well! I got the Sony xPlod 6x9's. I gutta get some new ones for the front because they're so old and dried from being in the sun that the speaker cone disintegrates when you touch it. But they still work. First things first i need a new stereo! Mine is about to kick the bucket. The rectangular indent will fit a new stereo perfect once i cut it out with the dremel.

I dunno about the 5x9 or 6x9, all I know it that all the 6x9's I went through were all bigger than the stock speakers. Oh and bhw... I couldn't get the grill on any of my speakers to fit either so when I got the set I have now I chose a set that looked great without the grill, and still had excellent sound quality along with substantial power handling. None of that wal-mart stuff.

Yeah the speakers i got look nice so i'd rather forget the grill too. Did you mount your speakers under the deck like the stock ones were, or through the top? I think if i mounted them through the top then more of the sound will get into the cab where it matters rather than in the trunk. "Although i might have to make the holes in the deck bigger."

Well that was my initial complaint is that I cut holes in my rear shelf so I could mount the 6x9's on top. Now I wish I left the rear shelf alone. I was in mint shape.
