be careful what you buy

I bought myself a new 40" LCD TV 1080p, and the clerk said "Oh don't worry, it'll fit nicely in your Caprice".

Oh boy was he right and wrong. It fit, but not nicely.

It rubbed the ceiling and pushed the seat down to fit, and the doors on both ends touched the box..

Always be sure what you buy will fit in your Caprice. Don't underestimate the large B-Body. XD

Remove it from the box, pad the ends and blanket the face. I'm sure it would have no problem fitting then. Hell getting in the door is the biggest obstacle with anything you put in your car. If you get pass the door then you're golden. Try getting a 32"+ regular tube tv still in the box in your back seat then lets talk.

Oh, I got it in, while in the box. It just only fit by half a centimeter.

Not to mention, I couldn't see squat through the rear window.

40" LCD, no matter what kind of car you have, that's gonna block your back window assuming you can get it in the car to begin with. Here's an example of how bug a Caprice is. I was able to fit a 26" 21 speed full suspension mountain bike in the truck and was still able to close the door without it hitting the bike. Then since the trunk was full, I still had my mountail bike, same setup, different brand to get into the car. Sure enough, it fit in the back seat without even having to move the front seat forward to backward to get it to fit. Of course that was before I had a truck.

That's why you see so many empty TV and other large boxes left in the parking lots of places such as Wal Mart, and other stores that sell big household items .

You got that right! We own two 32" tube tvs, and what makes it awkward is their shape, and weight. I can safely carry a 27" by myself , but that is where I draw the line . I hate to have to move the 32s around when we rearrange furniture or clean as there are no handles or decent places to get a grasp to be able to move them. My next tvs will be flat screens or other newer technology televisions that get rid of the weight and excess size in the back for the tubes.

Hell my 27" tube was not back friendly for this man with lumbar disk issues - hell I hurt myself for a week when I hurled that thing in the dumpster after replacing it with a 32" LCD.

That one is MUCH more friendly to move.

Re: be careful what you buy

It never fails, my tvs always fail in the middle of the winter. I end up having to trudge through the snow and then carry the heavy beast from my van, up my LONG sidewalk, up 5 stairs, along my deck and then into 2 doors, one narrower than the other, just to get it inside my house . Hopefully with the newer technology, and tvs getting lighter, this task of getting the tv in the house will become easier in the future,

Or maybe the winters will get colder the snow deeper the van smaller the sidewalk longer the stairs higher and the doors even more narrow with the growing population. Making getting a tv in the house even harder.

No, I wouldn't call it "growing population" rather 'getting older"
