clutch pedal stuck on the floor

hi everyone!!

i have a 97 escort lx and the problem started 2 weeks ago... as the title said, my clutch pedal sticks on the floor and i had to pull it manually then until we fix it, i put a bungee string to help...

i've been told by the mecanic it's the slave cylinder... we're about to change the part this saturday any recommandation??

if i need to add some fluid, what do you recommend and where we should put it??

thanx

Re: clutch pedal stuck on the floor

Your brakes and clutch work off of the same master cylinder. Do your brakes feel normal?
You either have low fluid, air in the system, or a leak... or a combination of things.
Check that the master cylinder is filled to where it should be. Check the back side of your wheels for any leakage from the brakes. Follow the lines from the master cylinder forward to the cylinder on the transmission and look for leakage in that area. Make sure that all the bleeder valves on the wheels and transmission are closed tight.
If no leakage and no problem with fluid, then your master cylinder is likely faulty. Before changing it out you might just want to have the entire system bled (including the clutch and mater cylinder, not just the wheels) and see if it corrects the problem.

Re: clutch pedal stuck on the floor

There is a clutch return spring at the top of the pedal where it mounts. It could be the problem it's bottoming out and not returning..
