Mercury Sable vs Ford Escort

I'm looking for a good, reliable, decent, economical car. The two choices I have found today are a 1997 3.0 v6 automatic mercury sable and a 1993 1.9 4-cylinder automatic ford escort. The Sable is in excellent condition, but it has less gas mileage. I think its around 24 or so. The Escort is in decent condition and gas mileage is great. I think around 30, maybe more. I really don't want one that old though, it seems like its in good condition, but it has a little noise when its driving that makes me nervous.
I really like the Mercury and I trust it more , but I know the Ford has better gas mileage and I really don't have alot of faith in it.

Which one do you guys think I should get?? Could someone post the actual MPGS for each car?? Also the price range each one should be in?? If anyone has any experience with either of these cars, please reply. Any advice at all would be great

Mercury is owned by Ford buddy , unless MPG is absolutely priority, id take the Sable

I'd go with the Sable as well. From what you described about both vehicles and what you felt, I think you would be more comfortable in choosing the Mercury. Trust your instincts.
