96 LXI - Brakes
Slight problem: I have a 96 LXi and every once in a while when I release the brakes the tail lights (brake lights) don't turn off. I have to tap them again in order for the lights to turn off. This usually happens after I come to a complete stop and have turned off the car. I walk around to back of the car and the brake lights are still on.
The brake linings are look good and have a lot of "brake material" left. If I turn the car off and apply the brakes a few times they build up pressure and when I turn the car on the pedel seems to be fine. Although sometimes the pedel does seem a little spongy. Was wondering if anyone had an idea what could be going on. Thank you for your help. Bryan |

Re: 96 LXI - Brakes
the light switch for the brakes is connected to the brake pedal I believe, used to be you could adjust them or put a new spring.

Re: 96 LXI - Brakes
Stop light switch is connected to a bracket that allows the switch arm to contact the brake pedal arm. If the switch arm is not moving in and out easily and hangs up, then you have the condition you describe, had this happen to my '96 and replacing the switch (about $13.00 and 15 minutes of time) solved my problem.

Re: 96 LXI - Brakes
Thanks, I'll give it a look at and see what I come up with.
