95 Transmission problem

I started out having speedo problems. The needle would jump all over. I replaced the instrument panel, and all of the cables. It worked for about 2 weeks just fine, then I would get the jumping but only over 65 MPH. Last weekend I took a 600 mile trip and it started to go crazy about half way through the trip. It jumped all over the place. The cruise control worked fine. The day after I got home, I went to Autozone and back (30 miles) it seems to shift hard. Later that day my wife was going to go to the store and the car drove about 40 feet and it would not move anymore. It wouldn't do anything in any gear. I shut it off and restarted it and it drove forward another 40 feet. I tried it again, nothing. Later I started it and backed it up into it's parking place, and then it stopped. It is full of fluid, the filter has about 3000 miles on it. There were no noticeable noises when it started or stopped. I have no clue what has happened. Does anyone out there have an idea?

Thank You
Nick

Re: 95 Transmission problem

Sounds like it's your vehicle speed sensor is on the fritz or the wiring to it. Since it provides vehicle speed info to the powertrain control module and the spedometer/odometer, it would explain the strange and escalating behavior. The pcm probably didn't understand the output from the vss, so it wouldn't let you move, likewise, the garbage it was producing didn't make anysense at the sped/odom either.
