Bonneville Dieing

First off - I have a 1997 Bonneville SE

-Car dies at random while driving, I can pull over to the side of the road, turn off the car for a few seconds and it will start back up. This happened for about 2 months. A few days ago the Check Engine light finally came on. So yesterday I was on my way home to get the car checked out, and just my luck while driving on interstate it starts dieing again.

-I would be driving, and it felt like the car would only take so much gas. I would get it up to about 3k rpms, and when I would try to give it gas to go on, tachometer would rise a bit then just drop back down. I couldn't get my speed up to stay on the road so when I would pull off and stop..the car would stutter and eventually die. While this was happening the gas pedal became harder to press down. This happened 4-5 times before I finally made it to town to get my car pulled home.

Just curious what you might think it could be. Planning on having it hooked up to a computer to see what it says..and having the fuel pump checked out. Don't really know where to go from there.

-Thanks,
Frake

Re: Bonneville Dieing

**UPDATE**

Had the pressure on the fuel pump checked, its fine....Exhaust is extremely hot..seems to be pointed to the catalytic converter. Plan on hooking it up to a computer tomorrow to see why the check engine light is on, and going to check the cconverter tomorrow.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Frake
