Door weatherstriping sticking

If i dont open any of the doors in my car for at least a day the weatherstripping seems to stick to the metal and you can hear it peel off when you open the door, is there any type of light grease or something i can put on there to stop it from sticking so the doors open easier???

Re: Door weatherstriping sticking

Get some spray silicone and then spray a rag with it. Take the rag and wipe it on the weatherstriping and that should stop the sticking.

Yes, the silicone will need to be reapplied. The application of silicone is recommended to help keep the weatherstriping from drying out.

Re: Door weatherstriping sticking

We have a similar problem up North in the winter where the weatherstripping can stick due to freezing temperatures. I've used WD-40 or Pam non-stick spray to keep the weatherstripping from sticking to the metal.

Second the PAM. It's a kinda odd use for it, but it works!

i use silicone grease.....been using it for over 30years... use small amounts rub it into the rubber, wipe off excess...this should last 1 year...i use it because the weather strip will freeze to frame doors won't open in winter so every november this is done and it keeps the rubber like new..1984 camaro weather strip still soft no cracks..

I prefer silicone grease also. It takes a little more effort to apply but it works well and keeps the seals like new. Just don't use a petroleum based lube on the weatherstrips as is may cause them to deteriorate.

this is a good thing to point out as some of the weather stripping will get distorted and swell up .....this I found when some oil from door hinge dripped on the weather strip....

Re: Door weatherstriping sticking

Also clean the metal contact areas and wax them with plain old car wax. This should help, I do this with all my cars and it helps in the winter if it happens to ice up.

Re: Door weatherstriping sticking

A third vote for silicone grease instead of spray. Door seals, trunk seals, the cowl seal, lower window sweeps, glass seals, window guide channels, radiator support air baffles, and suspension bushings all get silicone grease. I prefer the larger tubes of Permatex (#22058) or Fiske Brothers (#L251) silicones. If you have a 20-year old car with T-Tops or a roof window and want the original seals to work, you'll also treat those. Treat all the body rubber once a year and the seals will not bake on in summer nor freeze in winter.
