B2000 won't idle after warm up

My 1986 B2000 won't idle at all after warm up. When it starts cold, the choke is set and it warms up fine. As soon as it is warm and the throttle goes back to normal, it dies almost like turning off the key. It drives fine, but when you come to a stop the motor dies. I am looking at the EGR valve now but haven't come to any conclusions. Help.

Re: B2000 won't idle after warm up

I have about the same issue.
To cope, I dialed the idle up to about 1000. She idles then.
My problems are - leaks at exhaust, need fuel pressure regulator for the new Weber Carb, and needs a tuneup. I do not know if one of these is the culprit.

My suggestions - If you still have the stock carb, look for a vacuum leak. Exhaust leak? Clogged catylitic converters?

Re: B2000 won't idle after warm up

This idle problem started very abruptly. It was running fine. When I came up to a stop, the motor died...been the same since. I have ruled out the EGR valve. It is closing properly. In fact, I took it off and plugged the intake port...still died after warm up. I'm going to check the idle switch next. Maybe it's open and not telling the control module that the throttle is at idle position.

Sorry, haven't solved it yet because the problem disappeared one day. It runs normally now. I had to go back and reset the idle speeds for choke and no-choke operation. I had the idle speed raised high trying to keep it running.

Re: B2000 won't idle after warm up

bypassed the problem by removing the plunger and spring from the slow idle solenoid
let me know if anyone wants the details
