1994 geo metro distributor cap rotor

I have a 1994 Geo Metro. I recently tried to replace the rotor in the distributor cap and found that the rotor from the auto store pointed the metal of the rotor 180 degrees away from where the original rotor pointed. In other words, the metal part of the rotor didnt point where it should have, but 180 degrees from where it should have been. I tried 3 auto stores, and each place had the same rotor that didnt point the right way!!! What can I do? If anyone knows the solution, please let me know!!

Check the plastic part look close at the shaft make sure there are no burs or damage. Maybe give the molded part a visual check to make sure its the same. Ive never had problem with Autozono or Napa on my 94 XFI but know what your going threw had that happen with a Chrysler was a mid year change problem. Also if available go for the redish composit the black is cheap recycled junk and will track during high speed long distance driving.

Re: 1994 geo metro distributor cap rotor

Yeah, this is weird, and I remember that I ran across this same thing quite some time ago. If memory serves, there were two part numbers, not just one that the auto parts places had. Double-check to make sure that they don't list more than one part. I also found that the Valuecraft-labeled caps and rotors sold by Auto Zone were correct (at least they were when I bought them!)

Good luck, let us know if you resolve this.

I got mine through Advance and had no issues, but mine is a 1998 model.

I had the same problem with my '94 3 cyl. I ended up buying the cap from one of the auto parts stores and the rotor from the stealership.

The rotor from NAPA should fit, I have bought several of them. If you need, I can get the part number out of my receipt folder.

Re: 1994 geo metro distributor cap rotor

My guess is that either your distributor may not be the one that originally came with the engine (someone changed it along the way - unless you are the original owner how would you know?) or was a transition to the next generation which began in 95. Try going to the parts store with your working rotor and compare it to one from a 95 and up or an 89 - those are the generations before/after your 94. Figure out which one matches up and you should be good to go. Unfortunately the kid behind the counter will only know what the computer tells him....
