Oooo K...I lost to a SOLARA!

I am curious now...TRD badges and body kit. Big exhaust. What does a "TRD" Solara put out?

I see his headlights coming up pretty quick while I'm in the fast lane doing ~75. He starts to go around me in the carpool lane so I punch it to give chase.

In the time it took to go from ~75 to ~110, I stopped him from running away from me...but he was still slowly walking and I didn't have a prayer of catching him in my boat (it's not any good at freeway speeds).

Are those supposed to be quick??

As far as I know, no. Maybe this guy did something crazy to it, because if you beat a 350z, no way in hell was this guy stock.

Are Solara's RWD? ... I've never cared about them to even check.

A Solara is a Camry coupe, so FWD and not fast at all...but there is supposedly some guy around here with an SC'd one that has pulled on the big end on some LS1s.

Did a little poking around. TRD Solara = Supercharged. Stock puts down ~255-265 to the wheels. They are FWD. Tons of them on youtube on the dyno. Plus a manual trans.

My stupid trans winds out 3rd and doesn't shift into OD at WOT...if I had another gear I would have walked him no problem. Instead, I'm watching my tach wind out to the 6500 mark before I finally have to let OFF the gas in order to get into OD so I can continue to accelerate - albeit not quickly enough since I only get my top gear at part throttle.

Not to mention, this guy had a head start of, oh, 3 miles. lol. He and an Acura TL were already racing when they passed me, and I gave chase. I was able to close the gap substantially from 75-95, then my lack of gearing let him start to walk away.

So it makes sense.

From a dig, I should have had him.

I need more bewst. lol.

Re: Oooo K...I lost to a SOLARA!

not all solara TRD's are supercharged, stages 1 and 2 are just the body kit and suspension, stage 3 is a 4 psi supercharger. if it was a stage 3 it puts down 240 whp and runs a mid 14 sec. 1/4 mile.

So are you telling me that you tried to catch a Solara, in which he probably wasn't even aware of you trying, and then you gave yourself the big "L" word?

Judges...?

Yep...you fuckin owned yourself in a race the other guy didn't even know you were participating in.

Re: Oooo K...I lost to a SOLARA!

Nice one, Civ. That pretty much sums it up. Guy got 2 kills in one pull, not half bad!

It was probably a Supercharged one with the usual I/E, maybe a smaller pulley and supporting mods (injectors, tune) or something along those lines. Not sure how Toyota does it, just basing it off the way the Eaton M62 works for stages. I assume its the same, but you never know with imports Your stupid 3rd gear thing somewhat ruins your chances in a lot of races. Engine/tranny swap time!

I might consider that a 1337 post. If you didn't drive a Civic.

True Story...sold that about 3 years ago. Then I bought my GS-T and sold that. Good times....

(Currently in the market for either an S2K, Evo, or Sylvia)

That aside, you still owned yourself.

Screw SoCal traffic. Go swap your huggin tranny and just enjoy the expressions of those you come across as your shoe box looking car sails by...
