Steering Wheel Rewrap New Cover Leather Repair
1998 4-Runner. Leather steering wheel was looking pretty bad. None of the upholstery shops in town could re-wrap it. They recommended the leather steering wheel covers that come with the laces and you wrap it yourself. Problem is those don't cover the 4 "braces" that go from the wheel into the column. On my 4-Runner and my wife's Camry those are wrapped too. New leather steering wheel was about $850.00.
Finally found a place called Craft Customs in Texas. Took the steering wheel off and sent it to them and they did an excellent job rewrapping to OEM specs. Looks new. Took about 2 weeks from the time I sent it to the tiime I got it back. Cost was $250. One point to keepin mind - my airbag was already blown so it was easy to take the steering wheel off and put it back on. Not sure what additional cost there would be to have a dealer take the wheel off it if had a working airbag. They would have to take off the airbag and wheel and then put the steering wheel back on with the center nut just hand tight so you could drive the car home and park it while the steering wheel is being rewrapped. Place that did the work: Craft Customs, 214-564-1170. I'm mostly just placing this so that anyone searching might get the data. Last edited by ltlredwagon; 09-20-2008 at 12:34 PM. |
