95 s10 no spark

Hi I have a 95 S10 that won't start. Is getting fuel and has good pressure but there is no spark. The motor will turn over though. Where should I start trouble shooting. I am damn handy with the fluke meter but I have no idea of where to start. Help please!

Re: 95 s10 no spark

What engine and engine code and transmission?
Any codes or check engine lights?
Is the dist rotor turning when nengine is cranking?
Have you checked all fuses and power feeds?

Re: 95 s10 no spark

The engine is a 2.2, it has a manual transmission, and I do not know what the engine code is. The truck has been sitting in my garage for almost a year. I have checked every fuse at least 10 times. There is power going to the fuse block but I do not know which fuse's to check for power that would pertain to the engine. The fuel pump went out so then I decided to redo some of the custom bodywork. Now its all said and dome and the stupid thing has no spark. I know that there is something stupid that I am just overlooking, I just can't figure it out. These engine's are new to me, as this is the 2nd S10 that I have had and on the one that I just sold it had 175k and all it needed was plugs once and a tranny at 99,547.3 miles. I never had to do anything to the electrical system. I just dont understand completly how this engine works I guess.

Re: 95 s10 no spark

How and where are you checking for lose of spark?
Does fuel pump prime up key on?
Does fuel pump run on engine cranking?
What is the engine cranking fuel pressure.
The codes no from computer would help.
On the custom body work was any of that electrical?

I feel like an idiot at this right now. I am a custom suspension wizzard, but I can't figure out how the ignition sequence works on this truck.

Re: 95 s10 no spark

Key on you should hear a 2 second fuel pump prime up.
Then when crnking engine fuel pump should run and put out fuel pressure.
Where and how are you checking for spark?

For understanding the ign and fuel system a all data online sub would tell you how it works and lead you threw the no start test
And no spark test.

http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html

Also AZ web site has some free all data info on it.

As said in my header good repair info is your best freind.

Re: 95 s10 no spark

I was checking spark at the plugs and at the wires. Plugs by removing them and grounding and checking for spark. Wires by touching a screwdriver to the terminal then checking for arc. I will check out that link right now. Thanks.

Re: 95 s10 no spark

I just got home and checked voltage again at the fuse box. Slot 10 which is the ECM ignition is only reading 6 volts in the on position from both poles. It drops to 4.2 when cranking the engine. Where should I look from here? A bad ground?

That is where you need good repair information.
And good repair information is not free and is going up in price like gas.
A good wiring diagrams and componet locations is a have to have with voltage problems.

You can by some repair information and DIY it or just pay a repair shop so much a hr to test it oout for you.
Your choice.

The fuse 10 is feed from ign switch and feeds ign coil, turn signals, sir, gauges.
You have a bad or lose fuse or connection or wire someplace.

You will just have to look for the lose of voltage.
Check wiring and fuse block and ign switch.
Good Luck

Re: 95 s10 no spark

Is there a way to test the ignition switch? The ignition switch is all messed up and if you don't get it perfect the key won't even turn. I plan on changing the switch but I really just need to get it running so I can get it smogged and register it. Should I just change the switch?

Re: 95 s10 no spark

When checking ign switch electrical part a volt/ohm meter is you best freind.
Buton the key turning on thet is the key and tunmbler part of ign switch.
The electrical and the key is seperate stuff/parts.

Re: 95 s10 no spark

I Checked the voltage under the ignition switch. It was only getting 6.8 volts there and everything else that should have had power was getting 12. I jumped it with the brown 12v constant and she started right up. I am guessing that I have to change the module under the switch but what about the part with they tumblers?

Re: 95 s10 no spark

Hey MT-2500 if I get a sub to alldata will that allow me to use it for all of my cars or will I have to get a new sub for each car. I want to sub if it will work for all of them but it could get expensive If I had to sub for each one.

Also do you think I should just change that whole thing that the wires go into under the switch or is there something else I should check first?
