1995 Lumina Intermittant Problems

Car is experiencing intermittent issues

Went to start the car yesterday after it was shut off for 10 minutes.
Dashboard lights came on but it would not turn over.
Finally after several attempts it started but the AIR BAG light was on.
Drove it home, shut it off and restarted, the Air Bag light did not come back on. This morning when I started it, the AirBag and LowTrac lights on the dashboard were on. Shut it off, restarted it and the lights did not come back on....

A few weeks ago, i started the car in the morning, it would not idle, after trying about 5 times, it quickly put it in gear, drove it for a few minutes and the problem went away.

2 months earlier, the car would not idle, it kept stalling....then afte several attempts it stay ed running...

Now I am worried that i am going to get stuck somewhere....

Could it be ignition? Is there a computer that can be swapped out?
I like the car, it only had 100K, good on gas and rides nice but the intermittent problems are driving me crazy...

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1995 Lumina Intermittant Problems

I replaced the PCV valve, sprayed a can of carb cleaner into the PCV hose, put some 93 octane in it and put some fuel injector cleaner...
It is idling fine at this time

Re: 1995 Lumina Intermittant Problems

sounds like carbon buildup. take it to a shop and have the pros do an entire upper intake cleaning. its well worth it. may want to check your vac lines for cracks and buildup as well. pcv valve is only a couple bucks, so it would be wise to get a new one every time you change the oil. funny thing about lums, the intermittant problems will most likely "never" stop. there is always something that needs to be cleaned or replaced. good thing i like working on my car...

Re: 1995 Lumina Intermittant Problems

Thanks for the info, the dealer wanted to clean the intake, but after dumping a entire (LARGE) can of Gumout Carb cleaner in it through the PCV hose, putting a few gallons of premimum fuel in it a and 2 cans of carb cleaner, its been idling great for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you think I got all that carbon out?

Not familiar with Hornell...We lived in florida for 4 years, it was too hot and muggy for me, thats why we moved back...
Its beautiful country up here but cold winters...kills all the bugs

start an account on photobucket.com then link the pic here. you'll have to resize them, you can do it right on photobucket. there is an option for "message board" size...
