Nothing new. When I worked in an auto store 20 years ago we had an incidence
where a customer did exactly the same thing. They bought some Bars Leak and put it in their engine oil I suspect the guy who sold it to the customer didn't remind him to put it in the cooling system and not the crankcase. I always reminded my customers to the proper procedures for using aftermarket additives. Never had a comeback with a problem related to misusing the product.:

I suspect people in that position see a lot of strange things. I'm guessing you have a good story or two. I just couldn't believe this was posted by the person who did it. I have to give credit, though. It's a good and humbling reminder that we can all make mistakes.
