Freeze plug problem

I have a friend that has a 2001 aurora with a 3.5L i believe and somebody jacked it up and said theres a freeze plug leaking behind the engine at the firewall.

They said that the trans has to be removed for it to be fixed.I looked at autozones site for a freeze plug and it lists as for the heads.So why would
the trans have to be removed when i'm sure there's a tool for reaching it
right?

My main question is how many freeze plug's are on the motor and where they are located?
