2004 Cavalier Intermittent Airbag Light

Just bought this car over the weekend and now the airbag light comes on intermittently and stays on for only a couple minutes at a time.

Sensor problem? Something more complex?

Re: 2004 Cavalier Intermittent Airbag Light

take battery cable off ....take 15amp (?) fuse out at door for air bags SRS.....then put it all back to see if that will reset the SRS if not....take battery cable back off and 15amp(?) fuse back out. Look under dash drivers side and see if yellow plug to air bag is pluged in. IF it is then the other plug is in the dash or under dash pad ...(on my 97 anyway) check plugs and make sure of good conection the last place I know of is in the steering colunm two bolts (torx) on back side of SRS assembly take that off and check plug there yellow for SRS. BUT do not fuck with the clock spring thats under steering wheel hope you don't have to go there kant help.SEE Haynes pgs 12-14 and 12-15 for more info on clock spring!!!
CAUTION KEEP FACE AND HANDS, ARMS AWAY FROM AIR BAGS AT ALL TIMES...even when not hooked up.... lay SRS bags face up not down

Re: 2004 Cavalier Intermittent Airbag Light

Those are some scarey suggestions. Check out this info instead.
also, pay attention to & read the blog at the end.
Here's a site that will explain everything you need to know about airbag lights and resetting the system.
http://www.airbagsolutions.com/

This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting airbag lights. See if your car is listed here.
http://www.airbagsolutions.com/vehicles_list.aspx

On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident.
The flashing light on your car is telling the answer you need. On some vehicles, the light is flashing a two digit code. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing.
Airbagsolutions.com has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong and how to fix it!

Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool.

Check out these websites also for more info on airbag systems and the light.

Lastly, check your vehicle for recalls through this link also:

This one may pertain to your car!!!
