Anti-lock Light On - Abs Problem?

Hi,

Just bought a 1993 Mercury Villager. The anti lock light illuminated the instrument panel. I searched the forum for the words "anti lock" and "abs" but nothing found. Any known issues for the anti lock brakes? If not, does anyone know where to start as far as diagnosing the problem? Also, from what I've read the van has a Nissan engine? What about Nissan tranny or computer? Also what about the body? I didn't know if it was just a Nissan engine or everything Nissan. Guess I don't really care but was just curious. Thanks in advance.

Re: Anti-lock Light On - Abs Problem?

Start by checking fuses for the system. Then check the wiring harness to each wheel for electrical problems.
Auto Zone and Advance do free scans but I'm not sure about brakes abs systems.
http://www.modulemaster.com/ sells rebuilt units.
You may have to pay a diagnostic fee to find the problem.

Autozone cannot read abs codes, you will need to find a dealer or private shop with a ABS Capable Scanner. Do as randwor suggest and check wiring harness and wheel sensors.

Look in the Factory Service Manual by going to this thread SERVICE MANUAL. There is a procedure for checking the codes by your self in there.
