no oil to head
i got a 97 grand voyager that is not getting oil to the rear head. i'm not sure if there is a clog in the oil galleries or if the lifters have gone to crap. if found this out after hearing the noise and took valve cover off to look. the rocker arm shaft had worn into three pieces. what may have caused this?

Have you checked oil pressure with a manual oil pressure gauge? Looking at the online service manuals I tend to believe your oil galliere holes are plugged on the camshaft caps. The manual has procedure for camshaft removal. |

Re: no oil to head
Its a 3.3 v6. How much of a pain in the ass is it to check out the caps?

The 3.3 engine has ROCKER ARM shafts which also have holes in them for oil passage to them, these may be plugged. I assume that you already have the plenum removed in order to get the valve cover off. Remove the rockjer arm shafts and check for blocked oil passages. Loosen each bolt 1 turn at a time until valve spring tension is released. I bumped the ONLINE SERVICE MANUAL thread so you can find it easily. It has the procedure under ENGINE MECHANICAL the under ROCKER ARM SHAFT REMOVAL. SHouldn't be that hard, just make sure you install all parts at the same location that it was at.(Meaning rocker arms and push rods. If you have a broken shaft like you state you need to probably need to replace complete rocker arms, push rods and shaft. Also check the condition of the valve stem tips (where rocker arm mates to valve) for excessive wear from lack of oil. Since you have the plenum removed at this point I recommend replacing the REAR SPARK PLUGS at this time also. Good luck and keep us posted. |
