97 Lumina Starter

Thanks, I have gone to the Autozone web site and got the instruction to remove the starter. My friend suggested that I should try to short the two wires on the starter solenoid with the switch ON and if the starter turns, then my switch is bad if nothing happens the starter is bad. I have tried that and nothing happens, only a small spark. I did notice that there are two fuseable links on the two large wires going to the starter, could one of them be bad? Do I have to disconnect these wires from the stsrter to check them with a meter? (Engine is a 3.1L)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you jump from the 12v large cable on the starter to the solenoid wire, purple I believe on that car, it should crank, if not the starter is bad.

Re: 97 Lumina Starter

Thank you Max, I guess this will be next weekend project. Although it shouldn't take long. I have about 164K milees on the car, I drive it about 100 miles a day to work and she gets about 27 mpg. It's a great work car and I like to keep it for a while. Thanks again.
