Need help with a misfire

There has been a car in my shop for about a week, and we haven't been able to figure it out. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give. I created a new thread in the Stratus forum, but haven't yet recieved any help (and I gave it a whole day)

Re: Need help with a misfire

if you don't have it, I highly recommend subscribing to iatn.net

for odd ball stuff, its one of the best resources around, and pays for itself the first time you use it

That being said, I did search iatn and came with a few examples of similar issues as you describe, but nothing concrete. One was a bad distributor. Check your KV's, see if they are abnormal

A couple were dirty injectors. If you haven't already, might not be a bad idea to test injector balance and/or motor-vac it

Re: Need help with a misfire

A guy at work asked me if I had any mopar parts at home. He said his brother-in-law had a sebring or stratus with a V6 and similar problems. He said it lasted 2 months doing funky stuff and then died. He found it to be the PCM and thought it was weird because they replaced it back in '03 or '04....
When calling around he found it was on "national back order" and there wasn't a junk yard within 25 miles that had one..
I didn't pay that close of attention because I had no plans of buying one.
I will double check monday. I know the "he said this guy heard from that guy" stuff isn't very helpful, but maybe it will help you find your answer....

Re: Need help with a misfire

Thankyou both. We did a "replace test" on the distributor, so probably not it. I will check with him tomorrow to see if he did an injector balance test. I think the owner has decided to abandon it in our lot while he decides whether to spend dealership money on it or to sell it.
