Question about my guages on my K1500

I was driving my 95 Z71 and noticed that when I moved the gear stick (automatic transmission) that my gas guage would shoot all the way to full and back. Sometimes it would go all the way around and smack the oil pressure needle. Also, no matter how long I run/drive my truck, the water temp needle never moves.

Could I have some input fropm you more knowledgeable guys?

Thanks!

I forgot something

I had to replace a MAP Sensor. Since replacing that sensor, the gas gauge hasn't freeked out but the Coolant temp hasn't started working yet.

Re: Question about my guages on my K1500

well, if your coolant guage wont work, then i would check to make sure it's connected to the sensor in the head (possibly block, but i dont remember). my older truck (a 73) was just not hooked up to the sensor for whatever reason and the guage started working again. i have no idea if the newer models use the same type of setup to get the temperature reading or not. i should know though, since i have a 95 k1500 myself. it could be that your wiring is shot to the guage in the dash, since many of my idiot lights no longer work, such as the "shift up" light (it's a stick), low gas light, and who knows what other stuff that was broke before i bought it. i have heard that these trucks are famous for their wiring problems, and of course sagging doors

Re: Question about my guages on my K1500

Went out to the truck to find the sensor for my temp guage dangling in the breeze. Half of the sensor was still in the engine block. It's between the #6 and #8 Valves. Guess it's off to the parts store.

My temp gauge sensor is between the 1 and 3 spark plugs, but I have a 96 5.0. I would have guessed that you had an instrument panel or sensor grounding problem
