Front bench seat from a 71 lemans worth selling or junk it?
Bought a 71 lemans over the weekend with a front bench seat. Cover needs replaced and foam is starting to come apart. I am really tall (6'8ish) so the bench seat puts the seating position too high and too close so I am putting in modern buckets so I will be able to actually enjoy driving it. Would the front bench be worth selling or should I just trash it? Storing it in case I ever want to return original isn't really an option because of limited space.

I'd first attempt to sell it before discarding it. You never know it might be worth something to someone else restoring a vehicle into which it could fit. In the ad , be honest with it's condition and price it to sell. It's worth it if you can sell it even for a small amount as you will have some extra cash to spend on your car or for something else. Possible choices to sell it for maximum exposure would be eBay, Hemmings Motor News, your local auto trader type magazine,( especially if they have a classic or antiques car edition), and Craigslist.

I was looking for seats for my A body....Riduclious! I lucked out and found an original back seat for mine on Craigslist for $25. The guy I bought it from said he sold the bucket fronts, only thing good was the frames, on eBay for $370. |

alright, i'll probably put it up on ebay in a bit. no rush on that, though.
Another question on the same car. Would carpet, trunk mats and headliner from a same year Chevelle fit? There is a local classic Chevy store that I would rather give my business to than an online company if it would work. |

The carpet is pretty certain to fit, not sure about the headliner. IMO contact an on-line company and if possible, compare their part number for the Chevelle and Lemans components. If they are the same then the Chevelle parts should fit. |

Checked a number of sites. A few that didn't give PNs said that it would fit all 2 door automatic a-bodies, but ones with actual SKUs gave the Lemans 2109 and Chevelle 2131. Bummer.

Re: Front bench seat from a 71 lemans worth selling or junk it?
While many GM parts interchange, they're mostly chassis-related. Trim packages for all the A-bodies varied during that era. It's pot-luck. Ames Performance and Performance Years are two Pontiac-specific restoration houses where one can be sure of getting true Pontiac stuff. They're the only ones I know of that don't "cross lines". Year-1, Classic, The Paddock, OPGI all sell Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Buick, etc. and can mix things up.
All 4 divisions are completely different in that era, from any other GM division where mechanicals (engine, trans) are concerned. Some of the transmissions interchange, but be careful. Jim |

Thanks for the info.
http://s285.photobucket.com/albums/l...emans%20Sport/ as it sat last Saturday. Currently gutted and taking care of the surface rust on the floor pans. Hoping to have that all done this Saturday. |
